After graduating from Loyola Academy and attending Drake University, Tony Malatesta earned a BA in Organizational Communication from North Central College. He has been in the golf industry for over 26 years and a member of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America since 1993.
Tony was an instructor at the Motorola Western Open Clinics from 1995-1999, and the Chicago Golf Show from 1999-2005. In 2006, Tony joined the team at Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he provided golf services and several hundred club fittings as a master club-fitter and club repair technician. Tony regularly participates in Illinois PGA Section tournaments where he has had many high finishes, has qualified to play in the Illinois Open on 8 occasions, and in 2012, qualified for the PGA Professional National Senior Championship.
While basics like grip, stance, and posture are fundamental to most all golf swings, Tony does not teach a "one size fits all” golf swing. Instead, his philosophy involves tailoring his approach based on an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize the effectiveness of the ball flight laws. Thus he is able to successfully mentor players of all skill levels, in all facets of the game including rules, etiquette, and course management.
